![]() There is now an increasing need to focus on developing the ability to translate and interpret scientific data using aural skills, based on the specific use and different users. This is evidenced in various experimental studies (Nunan,1993 Kenworthy,1990) both in the oral and written forms. Regardless of the field of usage, speaking and writing in English as the media of expression are vital in different fields and subfields of science and technology. But we tend to minimize or ignore the importance of developing strong receptive skills of listening and reading, which is a prerequisite for mastery of productive skills of speaking and writing. ![]() The acquisition of good receptive skills is the key factor in the acquisition of good productive skills. The primacy of speech over writing has long been emphasized and debated by researchers. One of the primary properties of language is that 'language is human specific'. Although non-verbal communication can be achieved equally well through expressive sounds, onomatopoeia, facial expressions, body gestures, body postures, and movements, human beings are endowed with the art and skill of communicating through articulate speech, which is the advanced method of communication across individuals. Language is a tool of verbal communication for the effective transmission of information. Key words: Listening skills, authentic materials, technology. The conclusion of the study is that due to the low use and interest of using authentic materials in teaching, teachers tend to be stuck on traditional manners, and then we recommend the use of new technologies and testing different strategies and to upgrade themselves. The data collected were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. To construct this work, a number of research instruments were used to collect information such as teacher and learner questionnaires as well as the lesson observation chart. ![]() In order to orient our study in more appropriate way we raise the following research questions: How should teacher help grade 10 learners develop their listening skills?, and What materials and strategies should be used to develop grade 10 listening skills?, from the research questions we believe that if EFL teachers use appropriate teaching materials and strategies, grade 10 learners will improve their listening skills. ![]() The purpose of this work is of providing strategies and materials to EFL teachers to help grade 10 learners at the intermediate polytechnic institute in Balombo to develop their listening skills. offers an abundance of resources for immediate use in teaching and research Featuring insightful quotes and concept boxes, chapter overviews and summaries to guide the reader, Teaching and Researching Listening will engage and inform teachers, teacher trainers and researchers investigating communicative language use.provides a clear agenda for implementing listening strategies and designing tests.gives definitions of key concepts in neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics.examines a full range of teaching methods and research initiatives related to listening. In this fully revised and updated second edition, the book: Through understanding the interaction between these processes, language educators and researchers can develop more robust research methods and more effective classroom language teaching approaches. Teaching and Researching Listening provides a focused, state-of-the-art treatment of the linguistic, psycholinguistic and pragmatic processes that are involved in oral language use, and shows how these processes influence listening in a range of practical contexts.
